Sterling, VA, (June 9, 2020) - Sterling Soccer Club is excited to announce that Omar Ismail will step into the role of Travel Director, leading all aspects of coaching and player development for boys and girls Travel Academy teams and the Futures Academy pre-travel program.
Ismail joined the Club in 2018 and immediately made a positive impact on the Academy teams, players, and families. Under his leadership as head coach, the homegrown 2007 and 2010 boys Travel Academy teams have emerged onto the regional scene after establishing themselves as top teams in the state in their respective age groups.
“From day one, Coach Omar embraced Sterling’s vibrant, diverse, soccer-loving community and established a professional culture in which his players and teams can thrive both on and off the field”, commented Scott Mann, Sterling Soccer Club President. “His players are recognized for having creative flair and his teams a progressive possession-based style of play. We are excited about what the future holds for the Club and youth in this community.”
Ismail brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience locally and overseas. He played for professional and semi-professional clubs in the United States, Egypt, Holland, Denmark, and Australia. As a youth, he played locally for Reston, Arlington, DC United Academy and U23 teams, and collegiately for Bryant University and University of Mary Washington.
“It is a tremendous opportunity for me to work with a well-established, community-based soccer club that emphasizes player development at all levels”, said Ismail. “Having the opportunity to work with boys and girls and families who share the same passion for the game as I do is very fulfilling. The Sterling community derives its strength from diversity and this directly translates out onto the field in all of our teams.”
Ismail and his wife, Sarah, have made Sterling their home and love experiencing everything the community has to offer.
Sterling Soccer Club (Sterling Youth Soccer Association) was founded in 1976 by members of the Loudoun County Soccer Club who wanted to provide a soccer program focused on the needs of the Sterling community. Over the last 40 years the club has grown to a steady membership of over 1,600 players in the recreational and travel soccer programs.
The club philosophy has been to provide a safe and healthy soccer environment for the youth of Sterling that provides opportunities to play at a variety of competitive levels.
